There and Back
The route to Oreamnos Lake begins at the Pintler Creek Trailhead and follows Pintler Creek Trail No. 123 through dense forest and a glaciated valley. The trail climbs gradually alongside the creek, offering several good water access points along the way. After a sustained approach, stay on the main trail as it curves into the upper basin—no off-trail navigation is required. A well-established spur leads directly to the lake, though it may be narrower or less maintained than lower sections.
Oreamnos Lake sits in a high alpine cirque surrounded by granite cliffs and rugged terrain. This area sees relatively low foot traffic but remains easy to follow for experienced hikers. Expect opportunities to see mountain goats and enjoy a quiet, scenic backcountry setting. The route lies within the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness and grizzly territory—bear spray is strongly recommended. Ideal hiking conditions typically occur from late June through mid-October, once snowmelt allows access to the trailhead.
