The route begins along Saddles State Forest Access Road within the Lake George Wild Forest, following a well-defined forest path that climbs gradually through mixed hardwoods. After a short distance, the trail steepens toward the rocky ridge known as The Saddles, where sections of exposed granite and intermittent cairns guide the way. At the first major junction, keep left to gain the ridgeline and continue ascending toward open overlooks with broad views of Lake George’s eastern shoreline. From the crest, hikers can explore short side spurs to several viewpoints before the trail bends west and descends through patches of pine and fern-covered ledges.
The route eventually reconnects with the lower forest path near the start, forming a complete circuit. Expect brief hands-on sections along the ridge where footing can be uneven or loose. Seasonal streams may flow near the base, but no reliable water exists along the upper slopes. This area offers rewarding solitude, excellent birdwatching, and one of the best moderate ridge hikes in the southeastern Adirondacks.
