This route begins from an unmarked pull-off along Hwy 4 in Washington County, NY, just east of Dolph Pond. From the trailhead, the route enters a mixed forest and follows a gently climbing path through hardwood stands and wetland edges. At the first Y-intersection, stay left to follow the loop clockwise. The trail winds through a series of rolling ridges with uneven footing and occasional muddy stretches, especially after recent rain or snowmelt. Seasonal creeks appear along the route, offering potential water sources with proper treatment.
Primitive campsites may be found off-trail—remember to camp at least 150 feet from the pond and trail per NYSDEC regulations. Complete the loop by continuing westward and rejoining the main path back to the original Y-intersection. This quiet forest route rewards hikers with solitude, wildlife sightings, and a chance to explore a lesser-traveled corner of the Adirondack foothills.
