Loop
The Pixley Falls Nature Trail Loop begins from the main parking area near the entrance to Pixley Falls State Park off Route 46, just south of Boonville, New York. From the trailhead, follow the Nature Trail as it winds through a shaded hardwood forest, crossing small creeks on wooden footbridges. Within a short distance, the trail reaches a viewpoint overlooking the park’s namesake waterfall, where Pixley Falls drops roughly 50 feet into a rocky gorge. Continue past the base of the falls to connect with the Red Trail, which climbs gently through rolling woodland terrain before meeting the Green Trail near the park’s northern boundary.
Turn onto the Green Trail to complete the perimeter route, curving back toward the picnic areas and rejoining the Nature Trail near the parking lot. The route remains mostly flat with gradual ups and downs, suitable for hikers of all abilities. Expect muddy patches in spring and icy spots in winter, especially near the falls and creek crossings. This easy, family-friendly hike offers a peaceful forest setting, abundant birdlife, and a rewarding waterfall view that highlights the best of day hiking in central New York.
