Description
M-S Greenway (Section 6)/ Half Moon Pond Road to Mount Sunapee: From (gravel) Half Moon Pond Road, the trail takes a slight right over Bog Brook. The trail climbs up to its junction with Ridge Link Trail (on left) in 0.8/ 0.7 (sign/ book) miles. In another 2.0 miles (sign), you'll reach the summit of Kitteridge/Kittredge (sign/ book) at 2,140 ft. From here, the trail descends the north slope and then climbs back up to another small hilltop, to it's junction with Bear Pond Trail at 2.8/ 2.7 (sign/ book) miles. From here, the trail continues over some ups and downs to its junction with the Steve Galpin Shelter at Moose Lookout (on left), at 4.4 miles. This shelter is nestled in the hilltops of a Beech Forest. It features a 3-sided "open air" privy; water is available either 0.2 miles north on the Monadnock - Sunapee Greenway or south. Next, the trail follows the ridge with some ups and downs to the junction with the Five Summers Trail (on left). The trail is marked by a cairn with a yellow dot painted on it. I would not recommend this trail because it is very overgrown. In 0.2 miles from this trail junction, you'll arrive at Lucia's Lookout (2,500 ft.). This short spur (to the right) offers better views during the day than at night. The trail is steep and rocky through here to Lake Solitude; watch your step, if you're carrying a heavy pack. At the north end of Lake Solitude, the trail meets the Andrew Brook Trail (on right). In 0.1 miles from this junction, the M-S G meets some trails at Jack and June Junction. The trail takes a sharp left up to a view at White Ledges. The trail continues moderately to a (gravel) road/ Stovepipe (Downhill Ski) Trail. Continue left up the Stovepipe to the crest of the ridge, just past the Sunbowl Quad. Take a left onto the Skyway Ledges Trail towards the lodge. The Monadnock - Sunapee Greenway ends at the Mount Sunapee summit (2,743 ft.) near the lodge. For more information, please purchase the Monadnock - Sunapee Greenway trail guide from www.msgtc.org.
