Sunapee Mountain Out-and-Back

Park at on the Newbury side of the park to start of the Newbury Trail. The trail climbs steeply early on. At a large rock cairn in the middle of the trail about 0.3 miles in there is a trail that heads off toward Eagle's Nest. The Eagle's Nest Spur is a quick side trip to a nice overlook of Lake Sunapee and Newbury. Continue up the trail which follows the ridgeline up South Peak. Here the grade mellows for a while before reaching the junction of Andrew Brook Trail, Solitude Trail, and Monadnock - Sunapee Greenway: Section 6. Take a quick side trip down to Solitude Lake to enjoy the views. Continue climbing, now via Solitude Trail to reach the summit. Here the trail get just a bit steeper as it ascends the summit. Enjoy the views from the top before heading back.
