Sycamore Canyon

Sycamore Canyon is a gorgeous greenspace that is nestled in Riverside, California. This space is a chance to get away from the hustle of the suburban lifestyle to enjoy a few hours in nature. For extended portions of the hike, hikers can feel as if they are in a remote wilderness area. The area is used for hikers and mountain bikers alike so there are many trails that people have forged so hikers will need to make sure they are following the correct path. Hikers should also come with water for their hike, but the area is open to dogs so hikers can enjoy the trip with their furry friend. If hikers go in spring the winter rains have made the grass green and when the conditions are just right, hikers will get to experience a wildflower bloom of California Poppies. For this trail, hikers will start out to the south and ascend. This will take hikers to the top of the east side of sycamore canyon. Once hikers climb, they will have beautiful views of the canyon and there are some side trails that hikers can explore to get differing views of the canyon below. Hikers will continue to walk South, and the trail will eventually dead end at a dirt road that hikers will take to loop back around to the trailhead. When hikers start back towards the trailhead along the dirt road they will gradually descend. Roughly 3 miles into the trail, hikers will diverge from the road for the next 0.4 miles until they meet back up with the dirt road which will allow hikers to finish the loop and end up back at the trailhead. This moderate trail allows hikers to find peace in the city and is an opportunity to escape for the 3.7 mile loop trail.
