Description
The Jurupa Mountain North Trail is a moderately popular out-and-back trail that begins at Martin Tudor Jurupa Hills Regional Park and follows a steep path as it climbs amidst boulders to the peak of Mt. Jurupa.Rising from the urban sprawl, the Mt. Jurupa climb is a way to get above the din of the city. However it's not an easy hike. The trail heads up a hillside of slick dirt. Recent rainfall and erosion make the path a bit technical, as there are crevices along the trail that make you pay attention to your footing throughout most of the trail's length. Nearer to the bottom, the trails fork and branch, however as long as you remain headed uphill, they will soon converge. The path is not hard to find or follow, just a bit slick due to the angle of the incline and the harder dirt on the trail. As you head higher, the dominance of the nearby warehouses and roads becomes more minute, and views of the San Gabriel and San Bernardino Mountains begin to loom larger. Aside from some of the larger boulders, there is very little shade along the hike. Water and bathrooms are available at the park at the bottom, however the mountain is pretty wild landscape with no amenities at all.Upon nearing the top, the grade levels a bit. Panoramic views await hikers at the summit of the mountain. From here, you can retrace your route back to the bottom.Parking is available for free at Martin Tudor Jurupa Hills Regional Park - the park is open daily from dawn until dusk.An alternate trail to the summit is the South Trail, which follows a gentler grade over a longer distance to reach the peak.
