The Tillman Road Wildlife Management Area Trail begins from a small parking area off Tillman Road, about 20 miles northeast of Buffalo. This easy route meanders through flat terrain with several short loops connected by dirt paths and boardwalks. From the main trailhead, hikers can head clockwise or counterclockwise along a central loop, with spur trails offering access to viewing platforms and wildlife observation spots. Boardwalk sections cross marshes and wet areas, making the trail accessible even during wetter seasons, though some flooding may occur after heavy rain.
This route is managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and is open year-round. It's especially popular in spring and fall when bird activity peaks. Keep an eye out for white-tailed deer, frogs, turtles, and a wide range of songbirds and waterfowl. Hunting is permitted in season, so wearing blaze orange is recommended in the fall. Dogs, bikes, and motorized vehicles are not allowed, preserving the area's quiet, low-impact environment. The trail offers a peaceful way to explore wetlands and forest edges just outside the Buffalo metro area.
