This easy hiking route begins and ends near the Route 20 Trailhead at Darien Lakes State Park, following a gently rolling path through second-growth deciduous forest. The route combines segments of the Conservation Trail and Gas Line Trail, creating a well-defined path with minimal elevation change. Hikers should start by heading south from the trailhead, entering the forest on a broad, grassy path. After a short distance, turn left to join the Conservation Trail as it parallels the gas line corridor. At a Y-intersection deeper in the woods, bear right to stay on the main route. From here, the path becomes narrower and less traveled, with occasional muddy sections and limited signage—using a map or GPS is recommended.
The trail winds through quiet woods where deer, foxes, and songbirds are often spotted. Several junctions provide access to other lesser-used trails in the park, offering flexibility for longer outings. While the route is open year-round, it's best visited from late spring through early fall when conditions are dry and trails are clearer. There are no reliable water sources along the way, so hikers should carry their own supply. The final stretch of trail loops back toward the gas line corridor and reconnects with the starting segment, returning to the main parking area. This short, peaceful outing is ideal for casual day hikes in Western New York.
