This moderate route begins at the Spruce Mountain Trailhead on Spruce Mountain Road, southeast of Plainfield, Vermont. From the trailhead, follow the Spruce Mountain Trail uphill through mixed hardwood and spruce-fir forest. Before reaching the summit, head east on the connector trail toward Noyes Pond. Stay attentive at junctions—some old roads and trails intersect the path.
The descent toward Seyon Lodge State Park passes through quiet, forested terrain and may include small seasonal stream crossings depending on recent rainfall. Arriving at Noyes Pond, hikers will find a serene, remote trout pond with frequent loon sightings and opportunities for shoreline relaxation or fishing with a permit. The historic Seyon Lodge nearby dates to the Civilian Conservation Corps era and offers camping by reservation. Return the same way to complete the route. This hike offers classic New England forest scenery, wildlife viewing, and a blend of summit views and peaceful waterside hiking.
