Loop
The Pine Neck Loop Trail begins at the small parking area off Head of Lots Road in East Quogue and forms a gentle route through the Pine Neck Nature Sanctuary. From the trailhead, follow the well-defined path into a mixed forest of pitch pine and oak typical of Long Island’s coastal pine barrens. The route winds past shallow kettle ponds and low wetland areas that attract a variety of migratory birds, especially in spring and fall. Occasional spur paths lead toward views of tidal creeks and the estuary beyond, offering a quiet place to rest or observe wildlife.
Terrain throughout is level with only minor elevation changes, making this an easy walk suitable for most hikers. Surfaces can become muddy after rain or in winter, and ticks are common in warmer months. With its shaded forest, brackish wetlands, and quiet character, this route offers a relaxed way to explore one of the East End’s remaining coastal preserves.
