The Hallockville Pond Loop Trail begins at the SCA / Massachusetts Parks Headquarters off West Hawley Road (Hwy. 8A), just past the entrance parking near Hallockville Pond. From the trailhead, follow the well-marked path as it circles the pond, staying near the shoreline throughout. The trail winds through mixed hardwood forest and crosses small brooks and wetlands on wooden bridges. Interpretive signs highlight local ecology and cultural history. Around the pond’s head, look for the remains of a historic mill and dam, along with a large glacial erratic near the water’s edge.
This is an easy, flat walking route open year-round, with some wet or muddy sections depending on conditions. Stay on marked trails and use bridges where available to avoid damaging fragile terrain. Hallockville Pond also offers opportunities for wildlife viewing and fishing where permitted. This route is well-suited for beginner hikers or anyone seeking a quiet forest walk with historic highlights.
