Loop
Begin at the north trailhead at the Merck Forest and Farmland Center, proceeding uphill through mixed hardwood forests to the summit of Antone Mountain. The route follows well-marked paths managed by the forest center and private conservation partners. After hiking past working farmland the route detours onto the McCormick Trail, entering dense forest and climbing towards Mt Antone Trail. Stay on Mt Antone to continue toward the summit, reaching rustic shelters and occasional stream crossings along the way.
The trail features rocky sections and can become slick after rain, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Moose and black bear sightings are possible in this area, particularly in the quieter hours. Views from the top stretch across the Taconic and Green Mountains, making the steady climb worth the effort.
