Loop
Gallop Loop begins and ends at Merck Forest. From the trailhead, the route climbs gently into dense hardwood forest on a well-defined singletrack. Starting clockwise, the trail weaves through fern-covered understory and occasional wet spots then climbs a hillside dotted with mossy boulders and old stone walls—remnants of the area's farming past.
The trail maintains a moderate grade throughout, with a few short, rocky pitches that may be slick after rain. Seasonal streams appear in wetter months, but water is not reliable, so carry your own. Wildlife is minimal, though moose tracks and signs of black bear may be visible. This quieter trail offers a peaceful outing for hikers and trail runners, with soft footing and a steady rhythm through classic New England woods.
