Description
This route begins at the Mount Helena Trailhead in Mount Helena City Park and climbs steeply up the Powerline Trail, gaining elevation quickly along a wide, gravel-covered track. At a Y-intersection with the Powerline Alternate Trail, stay right to continue uphill. The grade eases slightly near the ridge, where panoramic views of the Helena Valley begin to open up. From the upper junction near the summit area, turn left onto the 1906 Trail and follow the ridgeline east. After a short distance, take a left onto the Powerline Alternate Trail to descend back toward the original junction. The open terrain offers consistent views of the valley below. Combining the Powerline, 1906, and Alternate trails makes for a rewarding loop with solid elevation gain and a more moderate descent.
