There and Back
The route begins at the small parking area along NH Route 9 near Richardson Drive in Barrington, crossing the footbridge over the pond’s dam to enter the conservation area. From the bridge, follow the main woods road as it heads southerly through mixed forest, passing wetland edges and gentle terrain early on. After a short distance, side paths branch left and right; staying on the primary route leads deeper into the property toward Richardson Pond’s shoreline and low, wooded ridgelines. Several signed junctions allow you to turn onto narrower footpaths that wind through quieter forest and past rocky ledges tucked back from the pond.
One popular option is the Winnie-the-Pooh Trail, which branches off not far from the entrance and loops through forest near the water with illustrated signs and occasional pond views. Farther in, the Goodwill Trail continues across rolling terrain with a few steeper pitches, especially where it climbs toward exposed rock outcrops. Trails reconnect at multiple Y-intersections, making it easy to shorten or extend the route depending on conditions. Expect roots, rocks, and muddy sections after rain or snowmelt. The experience finishes back near the pond and dam, rewarding the walk with calm water, wildlife sightings, and a peaceful forest setting typical of day hikes in southeastern New Hampshire.
