The Allegheny Gorge Overlook Trail begins at the end of Dewoody Road, where a parking area on the Kennerdell Tract offers access to State Game Lands Number 39. From the trailhead, head south on the dirt road, then turn left onto the Kennerdell Trail. Continue through mixed hardwood forest and make another left onto the Overlook Trail. A steady climb leads to Dennison Point Overlook, a prominent viewpoint perched high above the Allegheny River Gorge, with sweeping views of the winding river corridor and surrounding ridges.
After taking in the overlook, continue north on the Overlook Trail as it descends steeply into a densely forested ravine. At the junction with Dennison Run Trail, turn left and follow the trail a short distance before staying left again at the junction with Goat Trail. The route crosses Dennison Run and climbs moderately before rejoining the Kennerdell Trail and returning to the dirt road near the trailhead. This forested route includes several small stream crossings and footbridges — including a narrow suspension bridge — along with occasional cascades tucked into the terrain. Trails may be muddy or obscured by leaf cover, so watch closely for blazes and signs at junctions. Fall is a particularly popular season for this hike, with vibrant foliage amplifying the scenic value of the overlook.
