The Lake Trail is a 1.4-mile-long trail located in Lake Wissota State Park near Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Most of this trail is on a bank 30 to 40 feet above Lake Wissota. Lake Wissota is a 6148-acre reservoir created by the damming of the Chippewa River. The trail is a wide dirt path through a mostly deciduous forest. The trail is quite flat except for a gradual descent to the lakeshore near the beach. The Lake Trail can be accessed from the Lake Wissota Overlook parking lot near the entrance to the park. Hikers can also get to the trail from the campground or from the Leashed Pet Use Area near the beach. There is a stairway by the campground that allows hikers to get to the lake shore. Mosquitos can be bothersome during certain times of the year and there are signs that warn of poison ivy near the trail.Since this trail is located in a state park, a fee must be paid to enter the park. A day use or annual permit can be purchased at the Park Office. Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be on a leash eight feet long or shorter.A map of Lake Wissota State Park and its hiking trails can be found here.
