The Teatown Lake – Three Lakes route begins at the Teatown Lake Reservation Nature Center in Ossining, New York, and forms a moderately strenuous circuit through a mix of rolling forest, wetlands, and lake shores. From the trailhead, follow signs leading around Teatown Lake before connecting with trails that wind past Shadow Lake and Vernay Lake. Directional signs and blazes mark each junction, and hikers should turn right at early forks to begin the loop in a clockwise direction. Boardwalks cross wetland sections near the lakes, offering views of waterfowl and plant life, though these can be slick in wet or icy conditions.
The route travels through mature hardwood forest and passes a series of small ridges and stream crossings. Expect gentle ups and downs, with a few short, steeper sections requiring careful footing. In spring and summer, watch for wildflowers and listen for songbirds in the canopy. Dogs are permitted on leash, and while the area is open year-round, trails may be muddy or icy during colder months. The route returns to the Nature Center along the same general path, offering additional lake views on the return stretch. This is a great option for day hikes near the Hudson Valley with easy access to forested trails, water features, and wildlife viewing.
