Swan Lake Nature Trail

The Swan Lake Nature Trail is an easy walking path leading through the often quiet Swan Lake Nature Study Area.At about 1 mile round trip, this flat out-and-back path heads over flat gravel, beside a creek as it flows through a small wetlands area and into Swan Lake. The lake is habitat to dozens of migratory bird species, as well as amphibious creatures. Numerous interpretive signs are posted along the way, offering descriptions of the landscape and wildlife often found in it. A floating dock begins at the lake's edge and extends into the water. The dock is sturdy, and has several benches, and in the center of the lake, it's easy to listen to the sounds of birds and geese ring louder than the neighboring warehouses and roads.The area is a nationally recognized birdwatching area, and is easily accessible. The flat gravel path can be walked by most ability levels, including children. A shade gazebo offers benches and an area to get out of the sun during the warmer months. There is also access to an additional longer trail that skirts the lake's western shore for those looking to tack on a little more distance.There is no fee to visit the park. An outhouse sits in the parking lot, however there is no water or other amenities available here.The park is open from 8am to sunset. Dogs are not permitted anywhere within the park area.
