Description
The Ling Rock Trail begins within Missouri Headwaters State Park, just outside of Three Forks, Montana. This easy route follows a mellow path through meadow and riparian terrain, winding along the riverbank with periodic views of the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin Rivers as they merge to form the Missouri River. From the trailhead, follow the singletrack as it leads gently northward. Stay on the main path as side trails branch off toward the riverbank. Expect a generally flat route with minimal elevation gain, though sections near the river may be uneven or eroded. Vegetation can occasionally overgrow the trail, so long pants are recommended. The route provides excellent opportunities for birdwatching and quiet nature walking, especially during spring and early summer. This peaceful trail offers a close look at a historic and ecologically rich stretch of river confluence.
