There and Back
Just off CA 155/Wofford Heights Boulevard, look for the entrance to the Hungry Gulch Campground across from the Boulder Gulch Campground. Head through the gate for parking and the Coso Mine Loop Trail trailhead immediately to the left with a couple Nat'l Forest signs and mileages. (There is also a dirt pull-off just past the entrance if the gate is closed.) The Coso Mine Loop Trail heads up the hill, following the contours with a few switchbacks to make the ascent more manageable. Heading clockwise on the loop (as mapped), you'll come to a junction after 0.3 miles with the loop continuing to the right and the Isabella Peak Trail heading left (southwest). Turn left and continue on the Isabella Peak Trail as it flattens nicely for a bit before a couple short and steep hilly sections to the top of the peak. There are a couple viewpoints and benches along the way, but the peak offers an unobstructed view that's worth the extra distance.Head back the way you came and consider turning left at the Coso Mine Loop Trail to take the western half of the loop back to the start.
