Description
The Cherry Springs route begins and ends at Beach Lot #2 near Lake Jean in Ricketts Glen State Park. From the trailhead, follow the red-blazed Mountain Springs Trail as it heads south and then east through a quiet hemlock forest. Just beyond the remains of the old Lake Leigh Dam, stay left at the junction and continue onto Cherry Run Trail. The trail gradually descends toward Cherry Run, offering a remote feel and a peaceful alternative to the park’s busier waterfall routes. Continue past small cascades and mossy streambedsbefore reaching a signed junction with Little Cherry Run Trail. Turn right here and follow the path through a scenic section of boulders and rock formations nestled beneath the forest canopy. After a short distance, the trail connects with Mountain Springs Trail—turn right again and follow it back through rolling terrain toward Lake Jean. This moderate day hike in Ricketts Glen combines solitude, forest scenery, and streamside walking in one of the park’s quieter corners.
