The Pinnacle and Ridge route begins inside Wilgus State Park and climbs steadily through mixed hardwood forest toward a scenic ridge overlooking the Connecticut River Valley. After a short but sometimes steep ascent, the trail reaches an open viewpoint near the top—this is the turnaround point for those doing the Pinnacle Trail as an out-and-back route. For a longer option, hikers can descend via the Ridge Trail, which reconnects lower down near the trailhead and completes a moderate-length route with varied terrain.
Footing along the trail is rocky in places, especially during the climb, and sections can be slick after rain. The forest is home to spring wildflowers and occasional moose or deer sightings. There are no water sources along the trail, but water is available at the nearby Wilgus State Park campground. This route is best enjoyed between late May and mid-October, when the trail is typically dry and open. The overlook at the top offers rewarding views across the river valley and makes for a worthwhile day hike in southern Vermont.
