There and Back
The Lakeside Trail is a short and scenic section of the larger North Lake Tahoe Multi-Use Trail System. This 1.3 mile round trip hike is a lovely section of this trail, and parallels close to the lake with opportunities to walk out on a few docks. One can begin by parking at Commons Beach. This small park offers a playground and Lake Tahoe access. It is especially popular during the summer months, but also quite nice during the winter. You'll walk through the park and then come to the Tahoe City Marina. The trail continues past the boats and past a couple of restaurants. There are a few public docks in this area that I'd highly recommend walking out on to get a better view of Lake Tahoe. The trail then ascends slightly and passes by the Tahoe State Recreation Area Campground. It then comes out to Highway 28. This is the turnaround point for this hike.Return the way you came back to Commons Beach and the parking lot.
