Trail Overview

Twin Mountain Trail offers a scenic and moderately challenging route through the Medicine Bow National Forest for four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and ATVs looking to explore the rugged terrain between Laramie and Cheyenne. Spanning approximately 3.3 miles, this trail features a wide path that winds through elevations ranging from 8,000 to 8,392 feet, providing scenic views and access to numerous dispersed camping spots. While much of the route is relatively straightforward, travelers will encounter several deep water holes with firm bottoms that require careful tire placement. Rated a 4 out of 10 for difficulty, the trail becomes more demanding east of the Spider Road spur, where offroaders will navigate a short, uneven, and heavily rutted section. This particular obstacle poses a challenge for vehicles with lower ground clearance or limited articulation, particularly when climbing uphill from east to west. Multiple spur roads branch off from the main route, offering quick connections to single-track motorcycle trails, ATV routes, and scenic backcountry campsites nestled within the lodgepole pines.

Difficulty

Most of this trail is easy, but east of the Spider Road spur there is a short section of uneven, rutted trail that could be difficult for vehicles with less articulation or low ground clearance, especially if running this section uphill from east to west.

Trail is rough and loose through with some exposed rocks. Hill on the east end has rolls on the side and is very loose in spots. Use caution on bikes.

This trail was super easy... I'm not sure the 4 rating is warranted. Maybe conditions will change after a good rain but I would rate the trail a two or a three at most.
