Trail Overview
This route begins at FS 550 and follows a relatively easy and scenic corridor through Big Red Park before reaching the point where the Ellis Jeep Trail begins and the character and difficulty of the route change significantly. The road starts out wide enough for two vehicles to pass comfortably, with a well-maintained gravel surface that makes for an easy drive. As it continues, the route gradually narrows as it enters the surrounding forest, adding a little more character without becoming particularly challenging. The scenery throughout Big Red Park is one of the highlights, with open meadows, forested hillsides, and expansive mountain views. Several excellent dispersed campsites are located along the route, making this a great option for a relaxed drive or an overnight stay.
