Trail Overview

Indian 4WD Trail is a fantastic 11-mile trail that crosses two mountains, goes through the valleys and pines, goes across Pass Creek and the Little Popo Agie River, and ends at Frye Lake in the Shoshone National Forest. In some places, the trail has loose rocks, but they're navigable. The water crossings will be high in the springtime, but in mid-August they were easy. The scenery is stunning. When you go through the pine trees, the trail is narrow with no room to let someone by if you meet someone there. The Forest Service map says a full-size 4x4 will fit, but it was tight with our 75" SXS in places. In other areas of the trail letting someone by would be easy. The potential to see wildlife is really good because this trail takes you away from the roads and the crowds. You can get to Frye Lake by taking Louis Lake Road, but why would you if you could instead take this trail?

Difficulty

There are two water crossings, which in the springtime will be deeper and faster. There are some loose rocks on the trail and some hills, but they're not hard.

Fun trail. We ran into a Jeep that stated there are trees down past the second creek crossing. The trees didn't stop his Rubicon but I Have an alaskan camper in the back so he suggested turning around. I had no chain saw with me so we listened to the guy.
