Trail Overview

From its southern entrance, Pocahontas 84 branches off from P83 on a narrower path between pine trees, with a warning sign indicating this trail is for highly experienced riders only, and may require winch and 4WD. The trail begins with a steep descent with deeper ruts, loose rock, and some embedded rock layers. The following climb is challenging, featuring a split line--one side with deep ruts and the other with a small rock shelf about one foot tall. Capable UTVs can crawl right up using low range, while ATVs may struggle, especially with the holes leading up to the shelf. Some of the ruts in the following climbs are deep and off-camber, requiring riders to straddle the high points.

Our group had 3 KRX’s an X3 and a Rmax. Everyone had 33” minimum tires and no one made it without pulling winch line. There’s a step up 3/4 of the way up one of the climbs that we got hung up on. Besides that the trails not bad.
