while on almost the entire trail we were plagued by large flying insects. they looked like large bees or possibly deer flies but definately a biting insect. they were not localized and wherever we stopped for many miles, within a minute they were swarming the car. we could see a large forest fire in the national park, perhaps they were escaping it?

Went up Newberry Creek route to loop around to the overlook route. Big potholes and some puddles but overall in good shape with no major issues. One narrow area with some rocks on one side and a big drop off on the other but not super scary. Overall nice route.

descent from the overlook down this trail was great a few potholes and little washout of the trail but no problem down near the bottom of the trail road crews have definitely resurrected the trail

Open. Trail was clear with some water holes but you can probably make this in a Honda Civic with no problem.
