Trail Overview
Hartman Creek Road is a 4.6-mile point-to-point route that connects Skookumchuck Crossover Road and the Wildhorse Windfarm. The route can be difficult to follow in places due to overgrowth, with grass obscuring sections of the trail and making rutted and rocky areas harder to see. Conditions improve closer to the wind farm, where the road becomes rockier and less overgrown. A permit is required to enter the wind farm and can be obtained at www.pse.com/wildhorse. Obtaining the permit before entering the area is recommended to ensure access and due to limited cell service. While there is no signage indicating restricted access before entering, users may travel several miles into the area before encountering a locked gate. Entry should be planned during normal business hours or coordinated in advance to ensure access. Hartman Creek Road is subject to a seasonal closure between February 1 and May 1 and requires a Discovery Pass.
Difficulty
Hartman Creek Road is suitable for most high-clearance vehicles, as overgrown sections and uneven terrain can make travel more difficult for low-clearance vehicles. The primary challenges include rutted and rocky sections that may be obscured by grass, making obstacle detection more difficult. Navigation can also be challenging in overgrown areas where the route becomes less defined. Weather conditions such as rain can increase difficulty, particularly where the surface becomes soft or slick.
