Trail Overview
Accessed from the Hoh Mainline via Road 2700, this 3-mile climb gains roughly 1,300 feet on its way up toward the Mount Octopus Road junction. Like the rest of this network, it's an easy drive on mostly smooth gravel, with occasional stretches of two-track. Along the way, you'll pass a handful of unmarked, rarely traveled offshoots branching into the surrounding timberland — typical of this working forest, though most appear lightly used and are worth approaching with caution if you decide to explore them. The main road crosses a few narrow bridges, so it's worth slowing down and checking for oncoming traffic before committing. There are also some tight, blind 180-degree corners along the way that deserve caution, especially with a wider rig. Depending on the season, low overhanging branches can crowd the road in spots, so be mindful if you're running a roof rack or rooftop tent. As with the Mount Octopus Road itself, the gate near the top toward the old lookout site was closed and locked at the time of this visit, so the drivable route ends short of the summit. Overall, it's a straightforward, scenic climb into the high country.
