Trail Overview

This is a beautiful trail around the east side of Lake Kachess. Wrapped in tree cover, this road provides access to a number of additional trails and campsites, as well as views of the lake. The road is usually in good condition but sometimes has deep potholes. The East Kachess Group Campsite is available by appointment only and is a great place for a family gathering or birthday party.

FS 4818 is blocked by a snow berm that requires 18in or more ground clearance to cross. At this time of year, the snow cover is 12 in to 48 in, we slush during the day, and hard snow and ice at night with deep confused ruts..The ruts are ok, but get out of the ruts and you will get stuck. We were sent to recover a pair of lifted 4Runners that slid into the ditch 7 miles in. Recovery complicated by no safe place to turn around. ( winch pulls later, we completed the recovery and were able to slowly return to Easton. Not recommended for any vehicle without a winch and chains or tracked snow vehicle until late March.
