Trail Overview

The trail system located west of US-97 is considered one of the most difficult trail systems in Washington state. This trail is renowned for its steep hill climbs, substantial boulder obstacles, and demanding off-camber sections. The dense forests are filled with beautiful ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir trees. This narrow trail is just wide enough for one vehicle and is recommended for experienced riders. For your safety, it's highly recommended to bring a second machine when attempting this challenging trail. Recovery equipment is also recommended on the trail.

History

Considered the oldest mining town in Washington state, Liberty's history dates back to 1867 when a small amount of gold was first discovered in the area by Newton and Benton Goodwin. The brothers initially moved on and spent some time prospecting in nearby areas before returning in 1873. This time, they struck it rich, and word of their find quickly spread, leading to a mini gold rush in the area. By 1876, many miners who had rushed to the Liberty area had left for gold rushes in other states, but numerous local families that had homesteaded in the area decided to stay on.

The trail is overgrown and will damage the paint of 4x4 vehicles. I would not recommend this trail if you care about your paint. It's not worth the bushwacking.
