Peters Creek

Peters Creek, also known as Hunt Club Road and designated as Forest Service Road 54, is a well‑maintained gravel road that remains open year‑round. The trail serves as access to the Piney Ridge trailhead, located on the right fork of the road, just after the local hunting and fishing clubhouse. The main approach to the Piney Ridge trailhead is easy, with a smooth gravel surface and minimal vegetation overgrowth. Taking the left fork, the road becomes slightly more challenging and more engaging, with small washouts and ruts that require modest ground clearance. These features remain manageable for most vehicles. Dispersed camping is permitted within the national forest, which begins just beyond the hunting and fishing clubhouse. Several suitable sites can be found along the forested portion of the route. Near the beginning of Peters Creek, a small farm often sells eggs, providing a unique landmark and a fun stop before heading deeper into the forest.
