Trail Overview

This is a combination of gravel and dirt. It starts in the Jacobs Creek area and travels through the Cherokee National Forest from Tennessee into Virginia. There are a few camping locations along the way, including one beside the creek on the lower section. This is suitable for most AWD and all 4WD vehicles under all but the worst weather conditions. There are many points of interest along the route as well as the surrounding areas.

Difficulty

Difficulty will vary with weather conditions. During normal weather, the trail is easily traveled by any AWD or 4WD and most higher-sitting 2WD vehicles. During periods of inclement weather, use your best judgment, as this area has the potential for large amounts of rain and snow.

Trail was clear. It is a gravel road. Some small washouts and a few sections of cobble. Used four wheel drive, but never lost traction. Two slightly tight sections where downed trees have been clear but are still close to road edge. A few small mud holes at north end.

Mostly gravel and dirt, all camping spots were trashed, we ended up finding a good spot on adjacent FS-4002. If you are camping be cautious since this is a black bear zone.

Road was in good condition. Watch out for loose dogs at the properties at either end of the road, they chased us at both ends.
