Trail Overview

A seasonal forest route that traces along the Blue Ridge Parkway at a lower elevation. The surface is natural dirt with rocks, mud, and stream crossings. A tunnel around the mid-point passes under the BRP. Several mud holes are of varying difficulty depending on recent rain. The trail can be accessed from 2 points on the BRP, with the one near midpoint variably opened or closed. The spur trail near the BRP end listed as open is always locked gated and not used. No cell service in the area.

Whoever reported this trail is open is completely wrong. I just tried going the past weekend (May 30th) and the gates were completely closed to vehicle traffic. I believe this trail opens on August 1st.

Any water holes or crossings were fairly low with ice accumulating around the rim of any holes. Ran it north to south with the southern section having deeper ruts and some unavoidable off camber sections that shouldn’t be an issue. A deeply rutted descent into a shallow mud hole may scrape the undercarriage off lower clearance vehicles. Breakover at numerous spots could catch some stock-height full-size trucks; particularly with running boards. Had 6 other vehicles coming the other way…fortunately at areas we could all get by.

Ran the trail from Robinson Gap Rd to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Stock Gladiator Willys, didn't air down. Parts of the trail have some ruts and tighter breakover angles so there were a few scrapes and bumps but with a little planning and careful line picking it was fairly minor. Got a very late start from Hampton Roads so ended up hitting the trailhead at around midnight. Stock halogen lights on the Gladiator would have been enough but a little extra light made things easier.

We completed the trail in our stock wrangler but trail is rutted out pretty bad with lots of humps you may bottom out on if not approached at the right angle and steep angles I would recommend if you are stock to be a experienced driver or you may get into trouble other than that great fun trail. Had to use 4 wheel low. Lifted 4x4 should have no problem.

Muddy with a couple areas where you’d need a decent break over angle. Souther part of the trail has some deep washouts.

Fairly rutted out for the first couple sections. Lots of mud holes and overgrowth. Still had lots of fun sections. Would definitely do this trail again.

The trail was extremely slippery. We took Aline and ended up sliding into a deep rut causing the Jeep go sideways to a35 degree angle. There was more washout than times past. I took my great nephew and he had a great time! The blue ridge parkway crossing the James River was closed and there was a well marked detour.

Awesome trail! Some pretty deep mud holes. Had a lot of fun, met a couple other trail riders. Some sketchy places to pull off to allow people to pass. Overall a great trail! Highly recommended!

We rode from South to North between the two Blue Ridge Parkway entrances. It was pretty much what everyone else has said. The ruts are deep and lots of muddy holes.

Most of the trail was pretty decent. First quarter from brp gate was washed out pretty bad and had to do some thinking but made it through with minimal scrapping on a stock height silverado. Definetly a fun trail and would not recomend for stock height but is doable
