Trail Overview
A short but rewarding Class IV route in the ancient woods of Vermont, making a great loop with the nearby Burton Woods Road. There is one challenging section with a relatively narrow bypass route; full-size vehicles will navigate both. Both ends of this road have been privately maintained for logging on the north end and a nature preserve on the south end. There is a westerly view of the mountains, and some beautiful granite formations near the highest elevation to the east. Some steep sections can stay muddy most of the year, and with good tires, a trail-worthy stock height vehicle can easily navigate the entirety. This trail includes mud, small ledges, rocks, great views, and ancient stone walls. There is an unposted, well-worn trail to the east at the 1.4-mile mark north of the red house on the southern end of the trail, which goes to another old house. Beware, this side quest leads to a building and is approximately 600 yards long - better to scout on foot first and best to wear hi-vis during hunting season.
Difficulty
Stock-height trucks can easily navigate with good tire placement. Unregistered vehicles are not allowed because this is a Class 4 road. There can be larger rocks in the path, so low-clearance vehicles are not recommended.
