Trail Overview

Low risk, high reward. This trail through Monroe State has it all: a wooded drive, fantastic views, and amazing waterfalls. The trail has two names because it is a town road that passes through two towns, with a different name in each town. The very northern end of the trail crosses Dunbar Brook where it cascades over broken bedrock into deep, cold pools.

Difficulty

The Florida section of this town road is easy enough to be traversed by any car. Once the trail crosses into Monroe, it becomes much rockier as it descends into the Dunbar Brook valley.

Great trail with minimal spots to pull off. 90% of the road was ice and snow. Easy to get thru except at the very end of the north side. Had some big ice and deep water hole to get over. Pulled off for a little while for breakfast and notice a few signs of active bear in the area. Beaitiful!

A little snowy, open. Took the right to the parking area to the watchtower for sunset.

Ready to start from Florida. There are development projects so the road start simple. The end is more challenging, but easy enough that I didn't need 4low.

The north end of the trail is steep and rocky but not particularly difficult or treacherous. The south end is dirt/gravel. It had just rained the night before but there weren’t any big puddles or water crossings. Nice trail.

Took the short spur at the top to Hunt Hill for a nice view.

Went South to North. Going downhill made the trail manageable for my Subaru. Some steeper rock fields that I might not have been able to do had I gone North to South.

Good day for a fall run Road was dirt and rocky but if you want more fun head up towards Readsboro and there’s plenty of four class roads

I approached from the North. Stopped at the trail head to air down to 20psi for ride comfort. I took it slow in 4Lo since I wasn't familiar with the trail. First section is rocky/cobbles. May need to pick your line carefully depending on your ground clearance. Then it's mostly a dirt trail after that. Side trails are for hiking and snowmobiles so stick to the main line in your rig. Ended up being a nice and easy morning adventure.
