Trail Overview

Located in Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest this short trail bypasses a section of Scenic Route 100 north of Pittsfield. A fairly narrow and sometimes muddy section of a few miles is back-ended by a smooth well maintained gravel road. There are some slightly off-camber sections, but nothing too serious. You'll probably also encounter a bit of mud depending on recent weather patterns - the largest mud hole is located near the section of the road where it intersects MTB trails marked by small mountain bike signs attached to trees. In this section 4WD is definitely a big help. There are also a number of slightly rocky sections so higher clearance is a plus but most vehicles should be able to make it without too much drama.

The road was slightly slippery after the rain, 4Runner handled it easily. Be careful of potholes and slopes, and don't drive too fast.

Few ruts and rocks (softball to a bit larger). Broken metal culvert with sharp edges about 1/3 way down the trail that’s going to destroy a tire at some point. Nice trail to enjoy…visiting from GA.✌🏼

Nice ride…. Prob should have aired down for a smoother ride but it was a short trail. Perfect path from Rochester to the Clear River Tavern!!

some parts of the trail were fairly muddy. one tree is squished in the mud across the trail but easy to crawl over with stock 4x4. watch out for rocks in the mud.

There was one big log in the middle of a section, and I couldn’t move it nor did I bring a saw of any kind so I couldn’t get it. There were a couple muddy spots, and a couple big ish puddles, and at the end there was a fallen tree someone had chopped off (just big enough for my car) really fun though!

Pretty easy to transverse with any stock 4x4. A tree had fallen I moved what I could. Part of it is still hanging across the trail but if you’re under 8ft or so you should be fine getting through.
