Trail Overview

This is a high-altitude Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest road starting at the back of the Timpooneke Campground and wrapping around the face of the Timpanogos Wilderness Area. It is approximately 19 miles round trip and a there-and-back road. The route is rocky, but the rough road pays off with a fantastic view of Orem and Provo at the trail's end. The trail also leads to pristine high-altitude meadows once it leaves the pine forests and wraps around to the west-facing slope of the mountain. The route has several small offshoot trails for dirt bikes, horses, hikers, and mountain bikers. Be aware of the high altitude and plan accordingly for severe weather and possible snow and thunderstorms, even in the shoulder and summer seasons. The route is closed in winter due to snow. Overall, the trail is easy, but lower clearance vehicles might have to navigate some short sections of washouts and small boulders carefully. Stay on the trail to keep the meadows pristine for the next visitors.

This trail is massively overrated difficulty wise. It’s an incredibly easy trail, road is well-maintained, and not too difficult.

Typical day. A few people out on the trail. A few motorcycles who thought they owned the trail. Beautiful views.

Awesome views. Super rocky but nothing that cant be traversed in the multiple subaru outback’s we saw. Not too crowded. Will definitely do it again

Trail is very dusty, lots of puff sand on the second half. Not many people on a weekday. Excellent views along the trail.

I only drove the first half of the trail. There was a little snow as I got further to the top. The trail is a little rough right now with lots of small-ish rocks poking out of the dirt. Past halfway, it gets really muddy, so we decided to turn around. Still a good overlook at the halfway point with the trail descending past that.

Wide enough for vehicles to pass. It intersects with some trails that is for bikes. Great views. It does not lead you back the city, you’ll need to find a point to turn around. Very easy trail. The description of this trail is not at all how it is. Did not have to contend with any obstacles. A Subaru could do this trail I’m sure.

The first 4 miles takes you up and through the forest with a few glimpses of the Mountains. the last 5 miles offer many beautiful views. The road is really a 1 rating. Some small rocks make it bumpy but most 2WD can make it slowly. Saw many Outbacks and CRVs cruising along.
