Trail Overview
Swains Creek, also known as Strawberry Ridge Road, is a scenic and easy-going eight-mile dirt route that is perfect for beginners, scenic drivers, and families looking for a relaxed off-road experience in the mountains of southern Utah. Branching off State Route 14 near Duck Creek Village, this well-maintained dirt road winds through gorgeous alpine terrain with elevations ranging between 7,673 feet and 8,113 feet. The route offers smooth driving conditions that are easily handled by two-wheel-drive vehicles under dry conditions, making it highly accessible for standard SUVs, crossovers, four-wheel-drive vehicles, and SxSs alike. Along the way, the path navigates rolling terrain and gentle grades, providing stunning views of dense pine forests and expansive mountain meadows.
As you travel further along the route, the road passes directly through the private residential community of Swains Creek Pines, where drivers must remain respectful, obey posted speed limits, and stay on the main road. Continuing past the private properties, the trail opens up into beautiful southern Utah mountain meadows and serves as a gateway to several other OHV trails in the surrounding Dixie National Forest. While the primary surface consists of packed dirt and light gravel with minimal obstacles, caution is advised during or after heavy rain, as wet conditions can make the clay-heavy dirt slick. The route is best enjoyed from late spring through autumn when the weather is mild and the mountain meadows are at their most vibrant.
