Trail Overview

Strawberry Ridge (FR 70135) offers an accessible yet scenic mountain escape for drivers of high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes looking to explore the highlands west of Strawberry Reservoir. Stretching approximately 13.5 miles across the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, this route climbs from an elevation of 8,054 feet to a peak of 9,505 feet, delivering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and nearby reservoir. The trail features a mostly well-maintained mix of dirt and rock surfaces, with some narrow stretches that are only wide enough for one vehicle, requiring drivers to keep an eye out for occasional pullouts. While rated a technical difficulty of 2, visitors should stay alert for a few shallow water crossings, segments of loose, baseball-sized rocks, and deep culvert dips cutting across the road surface. As the route winds toward its southeastern section, the terrain transitions into red sand with several large, rounded humps that can be easily traversed at slower speeds. The western portion of the trail introduces high shelf road sections that provide spectacular exposure and sweeping vistas, requiring careful attention from behind the wheel. Because of its high-elevation profile, the trail is typically accessible from late June through October, as heavy snowpack blocks the route during winter and spring. Offroaders can access this ridge from nearby Highway 40, making it an easy addition to a day trip that can be combined with fishing or camping near Strawberry Reservoir.
