Trail Overview

True to its name, this route is defined by frequent washouts that create the main challenge from start to finish. Many of the eroded sections are passable in a high clearance 4x4 when driven carefully, but vehicles with limited suspension travel or lower ground clearance may experience binding, scraping, or difficulty maintaining traction in deeper crossings. For a more comfortable and controlled experience, a modest lift of around 2.5 inches and 35-inch tires is highly recommended. These upgrades help with breakover angle, articulation, and obstacle clearance through the roughest sections. Along the route, you will pass a fenced salt or brine pond that stands out against the desert landscape. Please respect the fencing, do not enter the area, and avoid disturbing anything around it. Beyond the washouts, the trail includes several steeper grades used to climb in and out of the surrounding terrain and connect with additional routes. A good 4lo range gearing can be helpful on these climbs, especially in loose conditions. This is a scenic and rewarding trail for drivers who enjoy rougher terrain and a little more challenge than a standard backroad.

Difficulty

Frequent washouts, articulation demands, and steeper connecting climbs make this a more challenging route than a typical desert road. A high clearance 4x4 can complete it with careful driving, but lifted vehicles with larger tires will have a clear advantage in clearance, suspension movement, and comfort.
