Starting at an elevation of 5,643 feet and topping out at 7,074 feet, the trail gains roughly 1,755 feet of elevation as it ascends from west to east. As the route climbs, the landscape shifts from low-lying sagebrush to cedar and pine forests, which provide shelter for local wildlife like squirrels, chipmunks, and occasionally elk or deer at dawn and dusk.
