Pipeline East

Pipeline East is an easy, scenic 5.6-mile out-and-back route perfect for beginners, campers, and those looking to access the shores of Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Starting near Antelope Flat Road, this gravel and dirt track descends roughly 417 feet from a high point of 6,453 feet down to the reservoir shoreline at 6,037 feet. The path is highly accessible, serving as an excellent corridor for high-clearance vehicles, four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and even large travel trailers looking for dispersed camping spots right by the water. The primary surface consists of a wide, hard-packed gravel track, though travelers should expect significant washboard corrugations that can rattle unsecured gear. While the main road remains free of major technical obstacles and holds a technical rating of 1, the spur trails branching down to the water's edge may present minor rocks or uneven terrain. There are no facilities or services along this route, so visitors must be fully self-sufficient, pack out all trash, and bring plenty of water, though reliable cell service is typically available throughout the peninsula. The route offers spectacular, unobstructed views of the red rock cliffs surrounding the gorge and provides a convenient base camp for launching non-motorized watercraft or exploring nearby ATV trails. Late spring through autumn offers the best conditions to travel the route, as winter weather can bring deep snow and muddy conditions to the area.
