The southern portion of this route poses more of a challenge as it consists of single-vehicle roads and leads to a vast open area. It is a dirt road that runs alongside the mountain base, providing breathtaking mountain scenery on one side and a stunning view of the Bonneville Salt Flats on the other. The road is well-maintained and presents very few obstacles.

As you approach the first section, the road narrows to a single track before opening up to a wide, spacious area. From there, the road transitions into a well-maintained, graded surface.

All a great road!! Except pilot mountain access road (the long straight southern bit) take pilot mountain road to the west. That long straight bit is right through the basin. Our stock Honda pilot with solid off-road tires barley made it through. Great poetential to get stuck. Should be fine in deep hot summer.
