Trail Overview

This trail goes from the historic Donner-Reed Pass out to the end of Crater Island. There are great views overlooking the salt flats, mud flats, and the Pilot Mountain range. This trail has several spurs that lead to the mud flats. The trail is mostly a smooth two-track trail but has a couple of rocky areas that should be fine for a beginner as long as your vehicle has decent ground clearance.

The east side of this loop around crater island is clear, open and easy cruising. I did not venture down the west side due to not many tire tracks on the salt flat portion. Did not want to get stuck. Nice little side loop with great views and plenty of camping
