Trail Overview

Maragunt Plateau 1 is an easy, scenic two-mile connector trail on the high-altitude Markagunt Plateau that is ideal for beginners, families, and those looking to transition between Duck Creek Village and the popular Uinta Flat dispersed camping area. Winding through the pristine Dixie National Forest at elevations between 8,062 and 8,479 feet, this route offers a quick and scenic passage through towering pines and open meadows. The trail is highly accessible, making it perfect for side-by-sides (SxSs), ATVs, and high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles. While the majority of the route consists of straightforward dirt tracks, drivers will encounter a small hill near the western end that requires a bit of careful tire placement over minor rocky patches. Starting near the Uinta Flat camping zone, the trail gently climbs and descends, experiencing a mild elevation change of approximately 411 feet. Navigating this trail is a breeze with its technical rating of 2, making it an excellent warm-up route before tackling more challenging trails on the plateau or a relaxed scenic drive to enjoy the crisp mountain air. Because of its high elevation, the trail is best enjoyed from late spring through autumn when the winter snows have melted. It serves as an excellent link for offroaders wanting to explore the broader Dixie National Forest trail system, offering easy access to nearby campsites and the recreational amenities of Duck Creek Village.
